Rating: 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis

A safe haven between four realms. The girl sworn to protect it — at any cost.

Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds — each with their own magic — together. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.

For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic first-hand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie’s brother. It’s where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it’s where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.

But this summer, the impossible happens–a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She’ll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer Taya, who seems to know more than she’s letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie–no one can be trusted, and no one is safe…

Goodreads

Plot / Storyline

Maddie goes to Havenfall to visit the inn of her uncle. This is the last summer before her uncle decided if she’s worthy enough to take over his inn but everything changes when Marcus is attacked and the door to Solaria is cracked open. Maddie suddenly has to take over the inn and has to figure out how to close the door.

Writing Style

Sara’s writing style is pleasant to read. She explains things calmly and doesn’t make it too complex. It’s easy to follow what’s going on.

Characters

Maddie

Maddie is the niece of the innkeeper of Havenfall. She visits the inn ever summer and is planning to take it over from her uncle Marcus. She lost her brother when she was younger and her mother is in prison for it although it was a creature from Solaria (another realm).

Brekken

Brekken is Maddie’s childhood friend. They met when she was 7 years old. He is from Fiordenkill and visits the Inn every summer.

Marcus

Marcus is Maddie’s uncle and the innkeeper. He protects the gates to the other realms and tries to keep the peace between his guests.

Romance

There’s not that much romance in the book simply because there’s no time for it. Enough stuff happens in a short period.

What I liked the most

What I liked the most about the book was definitely the idea of the doors to other realms. It’s a fun concept to play with and Sara did an amazing job at it. It has a very central role in the book.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed reading the book! I really love the concept of doors to another world. It has a very central role in the book and it makes me want to explore earth to find those secrets doors. A lot happened in this book even though the timespan was relatively short but it felt logic. There were some nice plot twists and you can’t trust your own judgement. Sara really wants me to believe that one person did something bad while it was actually someone else. I thought that I had learned something from EVERLESS since she did the same thing there yet I fell for it and didn’t find out who the villain was until it was revealed.
